Steel & Tube’s Tauranga Roofing team, better known as Your Bay City Rollers, are united in their commitment to focusing on our customers, a positive team culture and effective relationship building. Here, Regional Sales Manager, Blair Johnson (centre), sits down to reflect on what this means for Steel & Tube and our customers in the region.

A focus on the customer

Driven by a dynamic and flexible approach, an ability to adapt has proven critical to success over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has reminded many businesses of the foundation of doing good business. For the Roofing Tauranga team, this looks like delivering on time and in full.

Blair says: “The message we’re getting from our customers at the moment is that availability of product and an ability to deliver on time and in full is the most important criteria”. As a team, we are focused on being accountable and doing what is takes to deliver.

Above all, we are looking to take the learnings from the COVID-19 pandemic into the future as responsiveness, open communication and an unrelenting focus on the customer has always been and will continue to be critical to doing good business.

A positive team culture

For Steel & Tube, a positive team culture pulses through our organisation. It enables an environment built on trust and drives accountability.

Blair reflects on the role of team culture, saying: “We are lucky to have experienced and passionate people in key positions in our business. Many people in our team have been with our business or within the industry for a long time. As a team, we are passionate about supporting the local community here in Tauranga. The faces you see when you visit us at our branch are the same people you’ll see out for dinner on a Saturday evening or surfing on a Sunday morning”.

A commitment to building relationships

The Tauranga-based Roofing team have grown to understand the evolving expectations of quality service which our customers are demanding in this region. We are up for the challenge, and we are pleased to say that we are delivering despite challenging market conditions.

Blair says: “It goes without saying that every business is unique. As a result, our ability to deliver for our customers is, in part, underpinned by our understanding of the needs of these customers. For that reason, my team and I have been focused on maintaining open lines of communication with our customers by operating with an open-door policy”.
