The roofing industry in New Zealand continuously evolves, striving for warmer and dryer homes by improving build quality and weathertightness. This is the full-time job of Steel & Tube’s technical Roofing Team. They watch for updates to building standards, investigate new roofing installation methods, answer tricky technical questions, and provide innovative solutions.
Many of our customers have them on speed dial already, Taylor Rowberry (Technical Manager) and Corey Hill (Technical Advisor), spend their time researching and solving roofing challenges, ensuring the best possible long-term outcome for specifiers, roofers and the building owners.
We ask them a few questions on what it’s like being Steel & Tube’s Roofing Technical Team.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
“Steel & Tube has a lot of great and knowledgeable people in roofing, so often customer questions only escalate to us when they have a reasonably technical problem. Naturally, this creates a filter and we’re left with the biggest most uncommon challenges. While that may sound like an undesirable job to have, I enjoy solving the tricky questions our customers face, which is very rewarding experiencing the joy when a solution is found.” explained Taylor.

What kind of uncommon challenges do you solve?
Corey mentions, “No day is the same, and neither are the questions. We get anything from Solar-panel mounting to unique flashing applications, complex HVAC questions, and even aesthetic questions like blending different colours together.”
Joseph Bashouri, Principle from WMZA (Woodhams Meikle Zhan Architects) said "Collaborating with Steel & Tube's specification and technical team was a pleasure. They delivered a tailored flashing design that perfectly incorporated two colours at a walls corner junction, demonstrating their exceptional technical skills. We are exceedingly satisfied with the results and look forward to working with Steel & Tube on future projects".

How do you engage with our customers in need?
"We typically collaborate internally with our specification, sales, and production teams, we find working closely with internal staff alongside the customer helps resolve the question effectively while also upskilling our staff at the same time.” said Taylor.
“When it calls for it, we will visit the customer on site. Sometimes it’s more efficient to physically be there and potentially create a solution there and then.” explains Corey.
