After immigrating to New Zealand from South Africa in 2019, Wayne joined Team Steel & Tube’s Roofing division. It was here that Wayne developed a reputation as someone who could be trusted to build a branch in which everyone is committed to delivering for our customers. Now, Wayne reflects on his time with Steel & Tube to date as well as what he loves most about living in the Bay.
Describe your career with Steel & Tube to date
I originally joined the Steel & Tube Roofing team based in Wellington. It was a unique role as I had the opportunity to build the team up and develop their skillsets. This is the aspect of leading a team which I really enjoy. I love working with people and helping them expand their knowledge and grow their confidence. It keeps people engaged with their roles which ultimately makes for a better customer experience as they are working with knowledgeable and enthusiastic people each time they engage with Steel & Tube.
After finding my feet in Wellington and settling into life in New Zealand, I took the opportunity to move to our Tauranga site where I could, once again, build the team and develop the branch into what it needs to be to serve the Bay region as effectively as possible.
What do you enjoy most about working with Steel & Tube roofing customers based in Tauranga?
Our Tauranga Roofing facility is certainly customer-focused. For many of our customers, they work with us because of the long-standing relationship we have with them. Therefore, these relationships underpin why we are in business and have been able to serve this region for over 30 years. The history we have in the Bay area certainly motivates me to continue forging ahead and ensuring that we’re here and continuing to do good business for at least another 30 years.
Why do you love living and working in Tauranga?
The weather and the lifestyle here is fantastic. It’s pretty special to be able to live so close to the beach and to spend time outdoors exploring at the weekends. There’s also a real sense of community here which is great.
