To our customers

Radio NZ has provided a published correction over its March 22 story, in which it asserted imported threaded rods that Radio NZ had purchased from Steel & Tube had failed independent testing.

Steel & Tube had openly challenged those assertions with Radio NZ’s CEO as fundamentally flawed.

In the correction, Radio New Zealand says:

“On March 22 RNZ reported that steel bars purchased from Steel & Tube for use on its transmission masts near Taupo were below required strength. Steel & Tube has challenged the story on several points.

RNZ accepts the company’s statement that the material was threaded rods, not steel bars. It also now accepts that the test certificates were not related to the rods RNZ actually purchased.

We also accept Steel & Tube’s statement that the threaded rods RNZ purchased were compliant to the specification (grade 4.6) requested by and supplied to RNZ.”

As part of the correction offered by Radio NZ, the same correction was aired on National Radio on 1 April 2016, between 7 and 8am.

We are pleased with this outcome, as we realise such flawed reporting had caused concern for some of our customers.

Steel & Tube continues to stand behind our products.

Yours Faithfully
