Steel & Tube has offered an unreserved apology over an incident involving a staff member who parked a company branded vehicle cross disabled carparks at a supermarket in Katikati yesterday (September 29).

The staff member was on leave at the time and was towing a boat on a trailer.

Chief executive Dave Taylor said as soon as he heard about the incident, he spoke to the employee concerned and made it clear that the company did not condone the behaviour.

“I take any such incident very seriously and I’m extremely disappointed.”

I completely understand the concern and anger that the incident has caused for many people and I stressed my disappointment. The staff member involved is under no doubt that this behaviour is not tolerated, he regrets his actions, and I have been assured it will never happen again. The issue has now been dealt with.”

“We have a large number of S&T vehicles on the road on any given day and our employees are expected to adhere to all rules and be responsible drivers. I have reminded all staff today of their responsibilities and that their actions impact on the company. “

“While the employee has explained to me that he was only going to be in the supermarket very briefly and left a family member in the car to move the vehicle if required, this doesn’t excuse the fact that they should not have parked in carparks reserved for disabled drivers.”

Mr Taylor also rang the concerned member of the public who took the photo and posted on social media.

“I spoke with him and offered our apology. I also reiterated that this is not acceptable behaviour from any of our staff members and that the incident had been dealt with.”

Once again, as a Company, we stress our disappointment and offer our apology.”
