This week you will see over 250 New Zealand Construction sites proudly Flying the Flag.

This is a landmark event for our construction whanau as we come together to collectively recognise World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th and show the wider community we are dedicated to turning the tide on those we lose to suicide.

The flags are flying to start the conversation about suicide prevention in our construction industry and demonstrate that it is OK for everyone to talk about issues that are creating personal stress. We need to encourage our mates to seek support when needed, or offer support when they have a mate that is doing it tough.

MATES In Construction was formally launched in October 2019, focusing on opening up communication channels, changing on-site culture and improving knowledge of what can be done to prevent suicide in New Zealand’s construction industry. It’s all about mates helping mates.
