We're proud to celebrate Peter Ensor, who has been recognised as a Life Member of Civil Contractors New Zealand, the highest honour the association can bestow.
As General Manager of Steel & Tube's Reinforcing, Mesh and Composite Floor Decking (CFDL) supply & install team, with oversight of major projects across the business, Peter has spent more than 25 years contributing to the civil construction industry. This recognition acknowledges not only his professional achievements, but also his longstanding commitment to advancing the industry.

For Peter, being awarded Life Member of the CCNZ Auckland branch is especially meaningful.
Prior to his general manager role at Steel & Tube, Peter's career spanned multiple corners of the civil construction sector. From earthworks and wastewater treatment plants to co-owning a specialist SME focused on ground stabilisation, post-tensioning and grouting, before moving into business development with a Tier 1 contractor. This breadth of experience gives him a unique ability to understand the challenges and opportunities facing contractors of all sizes.
Peter’s involvement with CCNZ began in 2015, when several senior industry members encouraged him to join the Auckland branch committee.
“I sat quietly through the first few committee meetings until I found my feet and the area where I felt I could contribute most,” he says.
That contribution would go on to include leadership roles on the Major Clients and Sustainability subcommittees as Deputy Chair, and ultimately Chair of the Auckland branch from 2021 to 2023. During a period heavily impacted by Covid-19, Peter worked alongside industry groups to help secure fair financial support for contractors and develop operational protocols that enabled worksites to continue operating safely under Level 3 and 4 restrictions.
Reflecting on his Life Membership, Peter says the award holds special significance.
“To be recognised by an industry I've been passionate about throughout my career is incredibly humbling and something I'm very grateful for.”
Among the achievements Peter is most proud of are the initiatives that have helped influence how New Zealand's civil construction industry works and collaborates. From supporting the development of Auckland Council's award-winning Healthy Procurement Framework to contributing to the review and updating of NZS 3910 standard. His work centred around a shared goal: encouraging more balanced, collaborative relationships between clients and contractors—an approach he believes leads to better outcomes for everyone involved.
